HAIR-CARE ROUTINE

Here, we will start you off with a basic starter hair care routine. We recommend that you develop a routine that works for you personally, but starting here will give you a strong foundation from which to build. We’ll discuss pre-pooing and what to do post-wash.

PRE-POO

Pre-pooing is a process that provides your strands needed moisture to survive wash day. Remember, having low porosity hair means that it’s the most beneficial to use a clarifying shampoo because of all the buildup over time. A clarifying shampoo is strong enough to leave your hair very, very dry afterwards, even if you deep condition it. So, we recommend that you prepare for wash day with a nice pre-poo.

We know, we know. No one wants this long drawn out process just to take care of their hair, but trust us, you will be so happy with the results! Besides, this pre-poo routine is simple. It only involves two ingredients. It relies heavily on Rosemary Oil. This oil is packed with tons of benefits and its because its so packed, that is actually is quite heavy for our lo-po strands. So, we need a carrier oil to help distribute this thick oil into our protective strands. Use any lightweight oil to mix with Rosemary Oil: Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil…the list can go on. Our favorite most recently to use with Rosemary Oil has been Avocado Oil.

You can pour a small amount of Rosemary Oil into the palm of your hand, depending on the length of your hair, and add a few drops of the lightweight oil of your choice. You can even take an empty bottle and mix them there so that they will be mixed and ready to go for every pre-poo treatment in the future.

Next, part your hair and apply the hair mask (now we can call it hair mask) to your scalp. At lo-po pro, we teach that we must have a strong soil for our hair to grow strong. Focus on your scalp. Lather the oil there. Next, take your comb and pour oil on the teeth of the comb. Gently, start from your scalp all the way to your ends. Do this until your hair and scalp have a good coat of the hair mask. Lastly, wrap your hair and go to bed, ready for wash day in the morning. (Be sure to use a silk wrap.)

*Note, your pre-poo routine should be whatever is best for your specific strands. If you prefer not to wear a hair mask all night, you can always wear it for thirty minutes before you poo. If you choose this option, wear a plastic shower cap or a conditioning cap.

POST-WASH

Deep condition at least once a week! After washing, allow your hair to dry down just a bit. It’s best to let it air dry, a towel can dry out your precious strands. Once your hair has dried down a bit, apply your favorite deep-conditioner. As your you work the conditioner into your hair, make sure you focus on your scalp. Remember, here at LO-PO PRO, we believe that the scalp is the start to your healthy hair journey. Ferment the soil and watch your flowers grow over time. So, with this understanding, apply a generous amount of your deep-conditioner to your scalp. Then, comb the conditioner down to your ends. Make sure you apply a generous amount, there must be no strand left behind!

After you’ve applied a good amount of deep conditioner, put on your shower cap. Now, you can wear this by itself or you can put on a heating cap. The heating cap, much like steam in your hair care routine, will encourage the conidioner to penetrate down to root of your strands. This is a step that we recommend, but isn’t always necessary, so long as you protect your strands throughout your week. We know that almost everyone leads a very busy life of work, family, errands, recreation, so to save some time here and there, would be much appreciated. So put on your cap and wait 30 mins. You can leave on longer, but ultimately, it’s up to you. Once your timer goes off, you’re all set to rinse it out!

CONDITIONING

After washing out your deep conditioner, allow your hair to air dry a little bit until it is damp. Once it’s damp, take your favorite leave-in conditioner and apply it the same way that you applied your Rosemary Oil hair mask and your Deep Conditioner—focusing on your scalp. Once you’ve applied a good amount, you can put your favorite styling cream in and after your styling cream, be sure to lock in all your hard work with your absolute favorite light weight oil.

There! Now, you’re done. This routine will leave your hair soft and silky and smooth and buttery! Because you’ve done such a great job of caring for your strands in each step, the moisture will last for a few days. Make sure to frequently check on your hair to see how it’s doing on moisturization. If it seems like it’s getting dry, feel free to apply your leave-in again and if you don’t want to use anymore styling cream, at least be sure to finish with your favorite lightweight oil. We continue to say this, because the oil in hair care routine locks in moisture, ensuring that your strands don’t drink it up too fast!

See, now you’re a lo-po pro!
